Why Learn about Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR)?  (link from

Imagine there is a huge food producer that makes a multitude of  products consumed by millions of Americans each year.  Now imagine that the food producer knows their products kill 100,000 people and cause over 2 million serious adverse health effects every year, yet they do not stop producing or selling them.  Would the American people allow those products to stay on the market?  Would we hold the food producer accountable and insist on charges of involuntary manslaughter if the statistics are known facts found on the FDA website? (see below)

  • Over 2 MILLION serious Adverse Drugs Reaction (ADRs) yearly
  • 100,000 DEATHS yearly
  • ADRs 4th leading cause of death ahead of pulmonary disease, diabetes, AIDS, pneumonia, accidents and automobile deaths
  • Ambulatory patients ADR rate—unknown
  • Nursing home patients ADR rate— 350,000 yearly

Is Your Choice Of Food A Fundamental Right? | Food Renegade.

Is Your Choice Of Food A Fundamental Right? | Food Renegade.

This is a wonderful article that really resonated with me.  The underlined parts are lines that truly sung to my innate, undying need to be free.  It brings on a sort of nostalgia, remembering American History and school plays about the Founding Fathers and Betsey Ross.  I can still hear all the songs we so proudly and cheerfully sang in music class, praising this once great nation:  “Our Country ‘Tis Of Thee,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “America the Beautiful,” “I’m Proud to Be An American,” “This Land is Your Land,” and of course “The Star Spangled Banner.”  I don’t know what else to say except that my heart has sunk into the pit of my stomach.

“You grow a garden; you expect to be able to harvest the food from that garden and eat it. You raise a cow; you expect to be able to milk that cow and consume the milk. You raise chickens; you expect to gather eggs and eat them. It’s uncomplicated, simple, a fundamental right. Perhaps you wouldn’t feel this way if you lived under some other form of government, but here, now, in America and other democratized countries, this is what you expect.

According to Wisconsin Judge Patrick J. Fiedler, you do not have a fundamental right to consume the food you grow or own or raise. The Farm To Consumer Legal Defense Fund, the pioneers in defending food sovereignty and freedom, recently argued before Judge Fiedler that you and I have a constitutional right to consume the foods of our choice. Judge Fiedler saw no merit to the argument and ruled against the FTCLDF. When they asked him to clarify his statement, these were his words:

“no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to own and use a dairy cow or a dairy herd;”

“no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to consume the milk from their own cow;”

“no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to produce and consume the foods of their choice…”

Destroying American Farming Traditions; Law Would Prevent Children From Doing Farm Chores

Bill to Block Overreaching Department of Labor Farm Rule

It’s not enough to throw people in jail for selling raw milk or fined for growing food in their own garden,  or under threat of arrest, force people to execute their pigs because they don’t have curly tails or have the wrong color of fur, now they are trying to (fundamentally?) change the farming lifestyle.   Hey government, PLEASE STOP TRYING TO PROTECT US WHEN WE HAVEN’T ASKED FOR ANY PROTECTION.  The Constitution does not guarantee, nor require, the government to keep us safe from every hazard in life.

“Last year, DOL Secretary Hilda Solis proposed rules that would restrict family farm operations by prohibiting youth under the age of 18 from being NEAR CERTAIN ANIMALS without adult supervision, participating in common livestock practices such as VACCINATING AND HOOF TRIMMING, and HANDLING MOST ANIMALS more than six months old, which would severely LIMIT PARTICIPATION in 4-H and FFA activities and restrict their youth farm safety classes; operating farm machinery over 20 PTO horsepower; completing tasks at ELEVATIONS OVER SIX FEET HIGH; and working at stockyards and grain and feed facilities.  The language of the proposed rule is so specific it would even ban youth from operating a BATTERY POWERED SCREWDRIVER or a PRESSURIZED GARDEN HOSE.”

“If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.” – Thomas Jefferson

The following freedom-killing rules have been made JUST to keep us helpless folk safe, even though we have somehow managed to survive all these years:

* Arrests and strip searches for non-criminal offenses, like not having a dog on a leash.

* Molestation and irradiation before flying  (Search: TSA)

* Unannounced check points, molestation and illegal searches by TSA on highways, at bus stops, train stations, ferry terminals, high school proms and football games .

* TSA both in uniform and in plain clothes, on buses conducting illegal, unconstitutional bag checks, even though they are not trained or under any oath.

* Not allowing bake sales to protect us from becoming obese or keep us from being poisoned.

* Giving large fines for lemonade stands for fear of food contamination (Yea, I remember all those times I NEVER got sick or made anyone else sick from lemonade sold at lemonade stands. And I remember all the kids who NEVER got sick, let alone died, from bake sale food poisoning.)

(Although not related to safety, let’s take a moment to remember some other ridiculous overreaches by the government into American traditions, like the Girl Scouts banned from selling cookies on their own property  and others  banned from selling cookies on the sidewalk.)
Now we’re presented with these ridiculous child labor laws keeping kids from doing what their families have done for generations.

What else will we ban to protect minors?  Riding on mopeds, four wheelers, modified lawn mowers, go carts, bicycles?  Driving cars?  When will it stop?

“After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd.”
– Alexis de Tocqueville

“Do we desire to be cradled, and then carried throughout life to our graves by this partisan propelled bureaucratic monstrosity? …as individuals of sovereign dignity, are we now so terrified, bewildered, and impotent that our main purpose is to seek asylum from the potential hazards of freedom? Have we no faith in our natural strengths and abilities?”
– Sergei Hoff

“To the frustrated, freedom from responsibility is more attractive than freedom from restraint.  They are eager to barter their independence for relief from the burdens of willing, deciding and being responsible for inevitable failure. They willingly abdicate the directing of their lives to those who want to plan, command and shoulder all responsibility.”
-Eric Hoffer

“I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves, (A)nd if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.”
– Thomas Jefferson
