Bath Salts; What is Really Going on Here? UPDATE: Synthetic Drug Crackdown & “Debtors Prison”

7 Aug

'Spice' -- a designer synthetic cannabinoid.

I missed this press release from justice.gov/dea published on July 26,2012 “DEA NEWS: Nationwide Synthetic Drug Takedown: 19 million packets of synthetic drugs seized and $36 million in cash .” In a Time Times article from July 7, 2012 called “Woman Gives Birth, Smokes Bath Salts, Violence Ensues; What is Really Going on Here?” I proposed that the news was reporting more “zombie attacks” caused by bath salts(that sometimes ended up not being associated with bath salts at all) in an effort to increase public support to ban the substances, which would then increase funding to fight the drug war. Bath salts are one of the synthetic drugs that were targeted by the recent DEA nationwide crackdown known as “Operation Log Jam.” Here are some facts from the press release :

  • This was the “First ever nationwide law enforcement action against the synthetic designer drug industry”
  • 90 people were arrested
  • Five million packets of finished designer drugs were seized.
  • $36 million dollars in cash was seized (Who says the drug war isn’t a way for government to make money?)
  • Since July 26, 2012, 4.8 million packets of synthetic cannabinoids have been seized
  • Since July 26, 2012 products to produce 13.6 million packets of synthetic cannabinoids (ex. K2, Spice) have been seized
  • Since July 26, 2012 167,000 packets of synthetic cathinones (ex. bath salts) have been seized
  • Since July 26, 2012 products to produce 392, 000 packets of synthetic cathinones have been seized
  • 2010, poison centers nationwide responded to approximately 3,200 calls related to synthetic cathinones and synthetic cannabinoids
  • 2011, poison centers nationwide responded to approximately 13,000 calls related to synthetic cathinones and synthetic cannabinoids, with 60% of the patients being 25 years of age or younger

Excerpts from DEA press release:

“Although tremendous progress has been made in legislating and scheduling these dangerous substances, this enforcement action has disrupted the entire illegal industry, from manufacturers to retailers,” said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. “Together with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, we are committed to targeting these new and emerging drugs with every scientific, legislative, and investigative tool at our disposal.”

While many of the designer drugs being marketed today that were seized as part of Operation Log Jam are not specifically prohibited in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), the Controlled Substance Analogue Enforcement Act of 1986 (AEA) allows these drugs to be treated as controlled substances if they are proven to be chemically and/or pharmacologically similar to a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance.  A number of cases that are part of Operation Log Jam will be prosecuted federally under this analogue provision, which specifically exists to combat these new and emerging designer drugs.

“DEA has used its emergency scheduling authority to combat both synthetic cathinones (the so-called bath salts like Ivory Wave, etc.) and synthetic cannabinoids (the so-called incense products like K2, Spice, etc.), temporarily placing several of these dangerous chemicals into Schedule I of the CSA. Congress has also acted, permanently placing 26 substances into Schedule I of the CSA.

While the DEA is supported by the above mentioned federal laws, a new one was signed by the president on July 9, 2012. The law is part of S. 3187: Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act  and places synthetic drugs in the Schedule I class, and would extend the amount of time allotted for the temporary scheduling of a substance as a schedule I drug to two years with a one year extension, in comparison to current law stipulating one year with a sixth month extension for temporary scheduling. It would also put “Unless specifically exempted or unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound, mixture, or preparation which contains any quantity of cannabimimetic agents, or which contains their salts, isomers, and salts of isomers…” in the schedule I class. Recent Violent Crime & Murders NOT Committed With Guns

The weapon will not change the intent. If someone wants to hurt someone else, they will find a way. Gun control would have done nothing to stop these violent crimes. Keep in mind, the media is highly focused on guns and gun violence, so they will not report as many other types of violent murders. Besides that, we know there is a gun control agenda, and we know such agendas come from the very top. And of course we know that the very top controls mainstream media, and even some alternative media. Remember, initial reports said there were multiple shooters at the Batman theater shooting. Yesterday I posted videos of differing eyewitness accounts of the Sikh temple shooting. See ‘Eyewitness: Multiple Shooters Responsible For Sikh Temple Massacre (Video)‘.  Let’s not be naive. Let’s not ask for handcuffs and directions to our cell.

New DHS Scanner Knows What You’ve Eaten, If You’re High, & What’s in Your Purse From 164 Feet Away

5 Aug

With this technology, the molecular-level scanner called a Picosecond Programmable Laser can detect traces of drugs, chemicals, weapons, and food in one-trillionth of a second, or a picosecond.

The lasers will be in use in airports and other high-risk areas within one to two years, according to an unnamed undersecretary from Homeland Security. The company that has acquired 30 patents relating to these particular types of scanners, Genia Photonics, says the Picosecond Programmable Laser scanner can ‘penetrate clothing and many other organic materials and offers spectroscopic information, especially for materials that impact safety such as explosives and pharmacological substances.’

In-Q-Tel, a technology company playing middleman between DHS and Genia Photonics, states that “an important benefit of Genia Photonics’ implementation as compared to existing solutions is that the entire synchronized laser system is comprised in a single, robust and alignment-free unit that may be easily transported for use in many environments… This compact and robust laser has the ability to rapidly sweep wavelengths in any pattern and sequence.” [PDF]

The scanner is capable of detecting substances and processing the data from 164 feet away. It is ten million times faster and one million times more sensitive than any other existing security technology that is available. How widespread could the use of this technology become? Could there eventually be scanners in movie theaters, temples and churches, grocery stores, night clubs, and schools? Will we be scanned without even knowing it? Will our fourth amendment once again be ignored and disregarded?

Because it is such a small device, I can see it being put into police vehicles, as a Huffington Post article from July points out. Could this laser play a part in the legalization of marijuana? One dilemma with legalizing the drug is the hazard of irresponsible people driving under the influence, and the lack of technology to test if a person is high on marijuana at the time of a traffic stop. This new fourth amendment-crushing monstrosity, the Picosecond Programmable Laser, could solve that problem…and probably create three hundred new problems in the process. Current methods of testing for marijuana can show the drug in a person’s system even if the person has not used it in a month.  Could this  device aid in convincing the government and the public that marijuana should be legalized? What will we be giving up by allowing the use of these scanners? What opportunities for further abuse of power would this technology provide?

12-year-old tased inside Victoria’s Secret | ksdk.com

2 Aug

By Mike Rush

South St. Louis County (KSDK) – A police officer tased a 12-year-old girl inside a Victoria’s Secret Wednesday afternoon at South County Center.

Police say the officer came into the Victoria’s Secret looking for the teenager’s mom, who had warrants for her arrest. But it was the teen who got tased.

“This one goes in my chest. It was stuck in there so she had to keep on pulling trying to pull it out,” said Dejamon Baker, as she pointed to a small wound on her chest.

Baker has a matching wound on her stomach.

“I had fell on the floor and I couldn’t control myself I just kept on shaking and stuff,” said the girl.

Baker, her mother Charlene Bratton, and some other relatives were in the Victoria’s Secret.

Bratton had just tried on some shorts and was about to buy them when she says a St. Louis County officer came looking for her. Bratton had warrants, she says, for numerous unresolved traffic tickets.

“He said, put your hands behind your back. I said for what. Next thing you know he tackled me down on the ground,” said Bratton.

Baker said, “I was just crying. I guess he got mad because I was crying or something, then he just took it out and just tased me.”

ANAHEIM POLICE SHOOT AT WOMEN AND CHILDREN, UNLEASH K-9 ATTACK DOG

24 Jul

Everyone is focused on the joker nut ball, who is strangely not as spry and nimble as he was the day he wielded three guns, wounding 58 and killing 12. Meanwhile, US police officers ARE SHOOTING at WOMEN AND CHILDREN …in AMERICA…in 2012.

Deadly police shooting in Anaheim sparks violent protests – NBC News

“The deadly police shooting of an unarmed man in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday sparked a series of violent protests over the weekend, aggravating already high tensions between police and citizens.

More than a hundred residents of northeastern Anaheim reacted to the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Manuel Diaz by police by setting fire to garbage dumpsters in the street and throwing bottles at police officers Saturday night.

Police fired pepper balls and bean bags to control the crowd. The unrest escalated when a police dog escaped a squad car through an open window and bit at least two people. Five people were arrested.

The protests continued on Sunday, with dozens of people lining the streets outside police headquarters and then storming into the lobby chanting “shame,” “no justice, no peace,” and “cops, pigs and murderers,” as officials went into a press conference regarding the controversial shooting.

Protesters said they wanted to know what threat Diaz posed to officers.

The protest at the Anaheim Police Department was the latest in a series of actions by families of shooting victims, some of whom have been holding weekly protests for nearly two years at police headquarters in Orange County, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.

Anaheim Police Chief John Welter said two officers were placed on paid leave after one of them shot Diaz around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Welter said officers were patrolling a neighborhood in northeastern Anaheim when they approached three men allegedly acting suspiciously in an alley, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.

As police started questioning Diaz, who was standing outside a car talking to the two men inside, the car drove off and Diaz started running. Police chased him down and shot him.

“He was shot first in the back, but he was down,” Diaz’s mother, Genevieve Huizar, told NBCLosAngeles.com through tears Sunday, “then they shot him a second time. They shot him in the head.”

Welter said he can’t say why police shot Diaz during the chase, but he did confirm no weapon was found at the crime scene.

“At this time, there’s no information that he was armed when he was shot,” Welter said at a press conference, “but we don’t know what was thrown away as he was running away from the officers, and that was not found, according to the district attorney’s office.”

Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait called for an independent probe into a fatal police shooting, asking the state attorney general’s office to get involved.

“Transparency is essential,” Tait said during a press conference at the Anaheim Police Department. “The investigation will seek the truth, and whatever the truth is, we will own it.”

Anaheim was one of six California cities with populations greater than 100,000 that saw a big spike in violent crime last year, according to an analysis of FBI crime data released in June.”
